How to Remove a Watermark from an Image (Free, Online, No Photoshop)
Watermarks appear on stock photos, screenshots, AI-generated images, and more. Removing them used to require expensive software like Photoshop. Not anymore — AI inpainting tools can do it for free, in seconds, right in your browser.
What You'll Need
- Your watermarked image (JPEG, PNG, or WebP)
- A browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari — any modern browser)
- Our free tool: AI Image Object Remover
Step-by-Step: Remove a Watermark in 3 Steps
Step 1: Upload Your Image
Go to the AI Image Object Remover tool and drag your image into the upload area, or click to browse. Supported formats: JPEG, PNG, WebP. Maximum file size: 20MB.
Step 2: Paint Over the Watermark
Once your image loads, use the brush tool to paint over the watermark. The red overlay shows you exactly what area will be removed. Adjust the brush size using the slider — use a smaller brush for precise watermarks and a larger brush for wide semi-transparent overlays.
Tips for best results:
- Cover the entire watermark including any shadow or glow effect.
- Extend slightly beyond the watermark edges — the AI handles transitions better with a little extra room.
- Use Undo if you paint too much.
Step 3: Download the Clean Image
Click Remove Object. The AI processes your image in seconds and shows you a before/after comparison. Use the Compare slider to inspect the result, then click Download Image.
Does It Work on All Watermark Types?
The tool works on most common watermarks:
- ✅ Semi-transparent text watermarks (Getty, Shutterstock, etc.)
- ✅ Opaque logo watermarks in corners
- ✅ AI image generation watermarks (Gemini, DALL-E, Midjourney)
- ✅ Timestamp and date overlays
- ⚠️ Very large watermarks covering most of the image (quality may vary)
Why AI Inpainting Works So Well
Unlike simple blur or clone-stamp tools, AI inpainting analyses the pixels surrounding the watermark and reconstructs what should be there — matching texture, lighting, and colour. The result looks natural because the AI understands the context of the image.
Our tool uses the OpenCV TELEA algorithm, a fast, edge-aware inpainting method proven in professional image restoration software.
Is It Free?
Yes — completely free. No sign-up, no account, no payment. The service is supported by advertising, which keeps it free for everyone. Your images are automatically deleted within 20 minutes.
